Hydrogen Water

What is hydrogen?

  • Its name becomes from the greek words Hydro (water) and Gen (generator), because when it is combined with oxygen it creates water.
  • Hidrogen is the first element of the periodic table.
  • It is the lightest chemical element of all.
  • It is the most abundant chemical element in the universe as well, constituting 75% of its mass. It can be found combined with other elements such as oxygen and carbon.
  • Hydrogen is widely found in the molecules of our cells: 62%, followed by oxygen (25%) and carbon (9%).
  • Under normal conditions it is gaseous and it is tasteless , colorless, odorless and non-metallic.

In the field of biological medicine, recent studies have shown that molecular hydrogen (H2) is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It has potential medical applications, particularly protecting cells and organs from oxidative damage. In 2007, the American magazine Nature Medicine published a research entitled "Hydrogen effectively eliminates ROS". Thanks to the results of the study carried out by Dr. Shigeo Ohta research, MD professor, it was shown that water having high proportions of hydrogen will have the capability to eliminate hydroxyl radicals, which is one of the highest acidity ROS.

The Power of Hydrogen

Molecular hydrogen (H2) is considered as a new antioxidant with preventive and therapeutic applications. H2 has no adverse effects:

  • Hydrogen is the most important element in the cells of our body. Mitochondria need hydrogen to produce the energy that we need for growth, recovery and body regeneration.
  • It neutralizes free radicals that are responsible for the oxidation that causes aging and 90% of diseases, without impacting beneficial ROS.
  • It inhibits oxidative damage at the genetic level.
  • It stimulates antioxidant cell enzymes.
  • H2 is non-toxic to effective doses. The excess of H2 is exhaled out of the lungs.
  • Hydrogen can penetrate where others can not, including the mitochondria and the cell nucleus, without producing cytotoxic effects. This is because of its small molecular mass compared to other antioxidants.

Miraculous water

Lourdes miraculous water

Some decades ago, whenever people drank spring water in an abandoned slate mine in a village called Nordenau, in Germany, diseases such as diabetes, tumors, gastritis and enteritis, improved. This spontaneous healing is referred to as the "Nordenau phenomenon". The Japanese physician Dr. George Tseng studied the water from Nordenau. He found that it contained abundant hydrogen.

The Newsweek magazine published the story of a girl aged three who recovered from kidney cancer after drinking water from the spring in Lourdes, France. From then on, many chronically ill rushed to the scene and up to 66 cancer patients and patients with eye diseases were cured completely. They even received medical recognition of healing. Even today, the number of patients and tourists who visit this place to drink spring water continues to rise.

Numerous researchers have scientifically analyzed the components of these miraculous waters. The springs at Nordenau (Germany), Lourdes (France), Tlacote (Mexico) and Nadana (India) have shown high power of chronic diseases healing. All these waters have something in common; an abundant proportion of hydrogen wich eliminate ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species).

Up to date, more than 400 studies about ROS scavenging by the use of hydrogen have been published based on research both in animals and clinical trials. These ROS cause aging and diseases.

Molecular Hydrogen

Hydrogen water consumption is increasing in several countries. As an example, after the nuclear accident at Fukushima an increasing demand for hydrogen water generators took place in Japan. Nuclear radiation causes a high number of ROS.

Hydrogen water, antioxidant that scavenges ROS

There are several mechanisms of detoxification and defense inside our body the cope with ROS attack. First of all, SOD (superoxide dismutase) type natural antioxidant enzymes are responsible for scavenging ROS. Although SOD is synthesized by the body from birth to the second decade of life, from the age of 30 it reduces production and at the age of 35-40 years it ends its synthesis. Based on the synthesis of SOD evolution, aging begins to take place sometime between 30 and 40 years old.

Thus, from the age of 40 it is necessary to supplement our body with antioxidants that perform the function of the endogenous enzymes. Hydrogen consumption is especially recommended as it is the most powerful and effective antioxidant and because it is harmless to the human body.

Hydrogen has the capability to selectively eliminate harmful ROS (hydroxyl radicals) without interfering the beneficialROS which play a key role in immunity and biological activity. Hydrogen has a greater capability to penetrate the cells of our body.

There is almost no hydrogen in the air of our planet. In general, it is in liquid form. Most of the chemical reactions that take place in our body occur dissolved in liquid. Thus, in the absence of liquid it is difficult for reactions to take place so it is impossible for hydrogen to interact with ROS. Hydrogen dissolved in water is an easy way for absorption and distribution to all body cells. Moreover, once the body absorbs water, hydrogen is quickly distributed everywhere of it. It only takes a few minutes for water to fully circulate through the body.

Water goes into the bloodstream which takes the necessary nutrients to cells. On the other hand, it is also responsible for collecting cellular waste. Inside the brain there is a place known as the blood-brain barrier, which is responsible for avoiding the entrance of dangerous substances. However, water may pass through the barrier itself, so that hydrogen can also reach brain cells, reinforcing them with natural antioxidants.

Therefore, dissolving hydrogen in water is the most beneficial way to transport it to everywhere in the body and to scavenge ROS. The common method to produce hydrogen water is electrolysis.

Hydrogen can be applied in the treatment of multiple diseases. In experimental models, administration of hydrogen has proved effective in ischemia, hypoxia, transplantation, Parkinson's disease, drug intoxication, sepsis, diabetes and cancer. Several human trials have verified that administration of hydrogen is beneficial for many diseases.
